10 Tips To Set You At Ease During

Your Remodeling Project!

Many of our clients can give testimony that remodeling does not have to be a headache.  Although there will be a brief  interruption of your normal lifestyle, this information will help you get prepared.  Looking into the future, the enjoyment you will receive from your new kitchen or bathroom will more than compensate for this short time of inconvenience.

1. Job Review

Please inspect the layout, the specifications and the contract to determine that everything is exactly as you want.  If a detail is missing, please bring it to our attention.  If a color, countertop pattern, hardware, appliance (or any item) has yet to be selected, please do so as soon as possible so as not to cause delay in the projected installation date.

2. Scheduling Of Your Job

Our company will give you a tentative installation date after we receive shipping confirmations.  We do not want to start your job until all the items have been received.  This will prevent you from being torn up any longer than is absolutely necessary.  If we would receive word from one of our suppliers that an item is out of stock or for some reason a delay would be expected, we will contact you immediately to make alternative plans.  We will call in advance to give you the exact day and time the installation will begin and end barring any set backs.

If you have contracted with another company to do any part of the project, we must have the name of a contact person and a phone number so we can coordinate our schedule with theirs.

3.   Before The Installation Begins

Getting Ready

Occasionally some of our clients do some of the contracting themselves, such as removing the old cabinets, painting, floor covering, etc..  Be sure to check your contract to see what your responsibilities include.

If you are providing any products for the project, including fixtures, faucets, appliances, or tile, they must be at the job site when we begin work.  The products should be inspected by you for defects or missing parts to avoid delays in the schedule.

If you decide to furnish tile from another source once we are under contract, the material cost for wall work listed

on the contract ($100) will be credited.  If we are doing the tile installation, the contract price for wall work will stay the same or increase depending on the layout and material being used.

Product Deliveries

Cabinets will be delivered to our shop where they will be unboxed and looked over. The cabinets will be assembled with hardware already installed before they are delivered to your home.  Therefore, sometimes a couple of weeks may pass between receiving the cabinets here and the time we start the installation at the home.

Home Preparations

All cabinetry that is to be replaced should be emptied of its contents.  These items may be stored in an adjoining room where they will not be damaged.  Paintings and other wall decorations should be removed from the kitchen or bathroom walls.  Please remember to remove items on walls behind and adjacent to the work area which could be dislodged by hammering, etc.  Furniture, antiques and other valuables should be removed from the work area as well.

Cover valuables in adjacent rooms so as to prevent them from being damaged from our dust.  Some dust can be abrasive when removed.  Prepare yourself for dust.  Our installers are professionals and will do their best to minimize the dust and dirt created in your home.  However, it cannot be eliminated altogether.  You may advise our installers where you prefer them to do most of the cutting and sanding.  If you are having a master bathroom done, please cover the closet doors with plastic to keep the dust out of the closet and off your clothes.

Be prepared for your water to be shut off to your home for a few hours.  You may need to use another water source during your project.  Once your water is turned back on, your installer can advise you of any specific inconveniences.

If you are going to be gone while our men are working:

A.  Please leave a number where you can be reached.

B.  Give clear access to electrical panels and inform our installers where these panels are located.

4.   Installation

Payment

As stated on your contract, a second deposit is due on the first day of work at the job site.  This check can be given to the lead installer on the project or dropped off at the office in advance.

Arrival Time

Our company will make every effort to give you the hour of the hour of our installers arrival.  Assembly, loading, and driving time are difficult to estimate for each job; however, we will make every effort to be punctual.

For Your Safety

For the safety of your family, we request that everyone stay out of the room being remodeled during working hours.  Some of our adhesives are toxic and sharp tools and saws always present opportunity for accidents.

Removal Of Debris

If our firm is responsible for removal of existing items, please inform our crew what is to be kept and what is to be discarded and where each should be stored. We haul off all unwanted and excess items daily.

The Installers

Our installers are experienced professionals and take a great pride in their work.  Once we review the work order with the installers, they will be fully capable of completing the project.  Our lead installer will try to keep you informed of the projects progression and answer questions you may have.  The office staff will also stay in touch with the project until its completion.  Should a problem occur, we will make every effort to correct it quickly and properly.  A final inspection will be made to insure that everything has been done to your satisfaction.

What You Can Expect

Adjustments adjustments of doors and drawers are not performed at the factory.  In fact, adjustments of these items are one of the final steps to a good installation.  Rest assured that they will be taken care of before we are finished.

Left-Over Materials — Sometimes a greater amount of company materials are sent to your project than are used.  We will normally leave them there until the final clean up is performed, at which time, the installers will return them to our warehouse.  Ceramic tile and marble are normally ordered by the square foot.  We order extra material to compensate for breakage, etc.

Clean Up After your job is completed, our installers will remove the majority of dust and dirt from the countertops and cabinetry.  You may damp wipe these items before restocking your cabinetry.

5.   How Can You Help

Be Understanding

Be patient with the unexpected.  Our firm has many checks to enhance a quick and problem free installation.  However, no one can eliminate unanticipated late deliveries, shipment shortages, truck breakdowns, illnesses, etc.  Sometimes one problem can start a chain reaction and cause a delay. Rest assured that we will make every effort to keep a rigid schedule.

6.   Relax

Our installation staff is dedicated to doing quality work.  That is one reason why our family has been serving families like yours for over fifty years.  Please allow our installers to do their work.  Everyone works better without the pressures of someone over their shoulder.  However, they would appreciate an occasional cup of coffee or word of encouragement.

7. How To Care For Your Investment

Cabinet Maintanance

Be sure to use cleaning products recommended by the cabinet manufacturer.  Guardsmen does a great job on cabinets.

Counter Tops

Tops are not meant to rest hot pots and pans on, regardless of the top materials.  Be sure to use a trivet or tile for its protection.  Cutting on countertops is also not a recommended practice because scratching will occur.  A cutting board or chopping block is recommended for this use.

Flooring Tips

Be sure not to damage the floor when appliances and furniture are placed in their respective spots.  By placing objects on plywood and sliding them across the plywood, your flooring should be protected.

Water Leaks

Sometimes water leaks develop a day or two after our men have left.  Please check for any such leaks for at least a week.  Should one develop, please place a pan under it to prevent water damage and call our firm.

8.   Warranties

All warranties will be mailed out to you with your lien waivers.  Lien waivers are mailed out to your home at the time of receiving your final payment.

9.   Job Service

Should any adjustments need to be taken care of, please phone us.  Any service required during the first year will be covered under the warranty by our firm.  We try to take care of these calls first thing in the mornings.  We will not be responsible for servicing any products which we did not furnish.

Service that is needed after one year has elapsed will be billed at the prevailing labor rate and will be billed portal to portal.  Payment is requested at the time of completion.

Caulking will shrink, move and crack, due to its properties and unfortunately, this cannot be prevented.  Duenke Cabinet Co. will re-caulk within the first year of installation, if needed, at no charge.  However, general maintenance will be the responsibility of each homeowner thereafter.

10.   Enjoy Your Investment

Once the installation is completed and you can enjoy the kitchen or bath designed especially to fit your specific needs, it will be worth the time of inconvenience.  The hours of planning and fretting  will soon be forgotten as you enjoy the room designed to your specifications by Duenke Cabinet Co.

We trust that our family’s dedication to your satisfaction has been demonstrated.  Our desire is that you appreciate the change in your home to a degree that you would recommend us to a relative or friend.  Rest assured that any such recommendation will receive our equal attention.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to serve you and your family.
